The electric motor represents the concept for the future of mobility. Indeed, wherever electricity is flowing, ensuring safety to the very highest standards is of paramount importance. REO AG’s engineers have set themselves the task of developing testing systems for the entire electromobility value chain using the very best components.

REO offers a broad portfolio of products for test benches and test equipment used for electronic components. They include transformers, braking resistors and mains chokes, right through to ohmic, inductive and capacitive loads. All components are made at the company’s German sites and fulfil the most stringent quality and safety standards.

In terms of practical uses, the systems are used for testing charging systems, for example. REO offers special testing systems to ensure manufacturers of these systems are able to comply with the statutory requirements in place. As is the case for charging systems, which are used both in private settings as well as in commercial and public spaces, there are stringent requirements in place ensuring safer operation for man and machine.

REO’s testing systems allow providers of connectivity and e-mobility charging solutions to configure all common domestic and foreign mains voltages and test their components individually. An excellent example of this is the REOLAB 330 three-phase supply with separate winding, a very popular choice among our customers. The system typically consists of a power unit, which may be installed in the basement for example, along with the handy mobile REO PowerFormer controller with 9“ touchscreen panel, which takes up little space in the laboratory and enables flexible and rapid testing.

The link (i.e. the connectivity) between the charging system and the vehicle is also tested out; namely the plug. This process involves plug and socket devices (type 1 plugs, type 2 plugs, etc.) and socket combinations subject to international standards in place for trade, construction and industry.

Production is also accompanied by a range of research and development projects. An example of this is the use of braking resistors under extreme conditions in motorsports. In addition to our vast experience, our technological know-how, enhanced by the continuous growth in new requirements, ensures REO’s components are subject to continuous further development and improvement.

Components for testing systems

The transformer series are available in a bandwidth up to 150 kHz, achieving a high level of reliability thanks to the testing carried out in advance and completed in the manufacturing process (whether vacuum encapsulation, partial discharge measurement or high voltage testing). They are also adapted perfectly to the corresponding operation site and meet DIN EN 50178 standards.

REO braking resistors provide reliable protection from excessive voltage in the intermediate circuit. They achieve a better heat dissipation and better dynamic behaviour by filling heat conducting material surrounding the wound body. REO resistors are short-circuit-proof and self-extinguishing. They guarantee a high level of operational safety and are overload-proof in case of short-term loads for your applications.

The corresponding REO mains chokes relieve the supply network by compensating the harmonics reactive power. As a result, the harmonics are greatly reduced and any current peaks are attenuated by the inductance by more than 60%.

In order to charge products with active and reactive power, REO offers ohmic, inductive and capacitive loads in line with the required application and usage conditions. These loads can be implemented in different stages, either activated directly on the load or via coordinated interfaces.

The newly-launched campaign website www.emobility.reo.de, which covers the subject of e-mobility, is the company’s new information platform for prospective customers from a wide variety of sectors and manufacturers in the field of electromobility.
